Facebook shows some of your profile data to the world so that your friends can find you easily by looking at the information.

Then there are some information which can be seen by Everyone, Friends, Friends of Friends and Others. There are been a lot of controversy about Facebook privacy where Facebook was accused of sharing personal information of users with Advertisers. For Example: Phone numbers of Facebook users can be seen by others.

But I think that you are the one who decides which things will be shared online. You can change the Facebook privacy settings and make your profile information visible to the world accordingly.

Change the Privacy Settings in Facebook

You will find this page by going to Facebook—>Account—>Privacy Settings. You can keep everything visible to friend only and click on Apply These Settings.

You can also customize these setting by click on Customize setting.
